Thirty Days.
Something really fun about August and September for us is that that THIRTY PERCENT of our family members (including us) have birthdays during this time.
I love buying gifts for people. (Sending them on time? Not so great at that.) However, the forthcoming birthday madness, combined with a minimum of 2 trips we have coming up in the month of September, have motivated me to go on a 30-day purchasing hiatus.
Which means unless there is something that is absolutely necessary to my survival (conditioner counts), for the next 25 days or so (I started last week), I will not be buying…well, anything.
And as a warm-up/preview to Stufftacular, for the remainder of the 30 days, I’ll be posting about the things I wish I was buying.
The hilarious thing about this is I’m not sure what’s more pathetic: that I think going 30 days without purchasing anything unnecessary is a big deal, or that I am certain that I really will be able to find at least one thing every day that I wish I was buying.
I’ll admit I’m kind of intimidated by this. Not because I don’t think I will be able to find stuff (ha!) but because I’m scared of what people (read: my inlaws and my mother) will think when I reveal how much I really think about BUYING stuff. And how much stuff I BUY. Because after this 30 days? Oh, yes, there will be buying.
Then again, you know what is almost more fun than actually buying things? Talking about the things you want to buy!
Today, I wish I was buying a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Because a PSL is about $5, it counts as a “purchase.” $5 is not that much, you say? How about if I have, oh, I don’t know, three of them a week? I go for them in the morning, I go for them as an afternoon snack, I have them when I am reading a book, when I am going Christmas shopping, on the way home from work…
I must spend four times as much at Starbucks when they serve PSL than the entire rest of the year combined. They’re just freaking delicious. I can’t help myself.
My compulsive desire for these right now may slightly be related to how I would much rather be in a sweater in the park in the fall with a book and a PSL than at my desk in my overheated office when it’s 93 degrees outside. Slightly.
Pumpkin Spice Latte season, you cannot come soon enough.

My best friend is in to those… I never could bring myself to like pie mixed with coffee in a cup. Switch it to gingerbread spiced latte and I’m with you. Except this part of the country we’re more likely to be huddled in front of the fire come fall than in a park…

Y’know, the gingerbread latte always looked yummy, but I cannot pull myself away from the power of the pumpkin spice.
As for the pie-in-a-cup approach, I find it best to avert my eyes while they are pumping the concoction o’ pumpkin goodness into the cup.
